In Charlie Manuel‘s press conference after the Phillies’ Game One victory Wednesday night, a reporter asked him if he talked to Jim Leyland (or Clint Hurdle) about the effects of long layoffs after the LCS.

Manuel’s long answer eventually landed with “no” but the most damning part of his response was, and I’m paraphrasing: I know what the layoff can do to a team; I watched those games.
