Game 8: Same Old, Same Old

ESPN highlights available here.

The Score: Tigers 6 – Royals 5

The Gist: Dontrelle Willis‘s second start was a lot uglier than his first (5 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 104 pitches) but he managed to escape again with a no decision. The Tigers’ lineup again could not solve Brian Bannister — no surprise there; he’s 4-2 against Detroit in nine career starts. But they waited around for Roman Colon and the Royals’ bullpen and mounted a six-run seventh-inning charge. Four doubles and a Miguel Cabrera walk later — the Tigers had another comeback win.

The Quote: “I think we knew that, with the way Bannister was pitching, our best chance was probably to get to their bullpen.” — Austin Jackson

The Stat: 6 – The number of pitches Scott Sizemore saw in his 2-for-3 day.

Up Next: Rick Porcello (1-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. Kyle Davies (0-0, 4.50 ERA) — 1:05 p.m. ET | FSD/1270 & 97.1
