  • 1978 — The Yankees’ Ron Guidry wins his 13th consecutive game, the best start in Yankee history, in beating the Tigers, 3-2. But check this out: With the Yankees down 2-0, Mickey Rivers’ long drive to right is caught by a fan reaching down to take it away from Mickey Stanley. The fan drops the ball and Stanley, waiting for an interference call, fails to retrieve it. Rivers motors for an inside-the-park homer and New York ties the game 2-2, eventually winning it.
  • 1970Joe Niekro no-hits the Yankees until Horace Clarke singles in the 9th inning. The Tigers win 5 – 0.

  • 1911 — The Tigers pound out a 14-6 victory over Cleveland as Ty Cobb, hitting in his 40th straight game, has three hits and three runs.
