- 1984 — The Tigers acquired LHP Bill Scherrer from the Reds for a player to be named (RHP Carl Willis) and cash considerations.
- 1969 — Jim Northrup goes 6 for 6, the first six-hit game for Detroit since June 24, 1962, as the Tigers beat the A’s, 5-3. Northrup’s sixth hit is a home run over the roof in the bottom of the 13th to win the game.
- 1961 — At Washington, Rocky Colavito and Al Kaline belt first-inning homers as Detroit wins, 7-3 to cut New York’s lead to 1-1/2 games. Colavito now has 39 homers and 120 RBIs. Jake Wood hits a sixth-inning grand slam to complete the scoring for Detroit.
