  • 2008 — In Chicago, rookie Alexei Ramirez’s fourth grand slam of the year leads the White Sox to an 8-2 win over the Tigers in a make-up game, forcing a one-game playoff with the Minnesota Twins. Gavin Floyd picks up his 17th win of the season, while Armando Galarraga, making a rare relief appearance, takes the loss.

  • 1928 — The Tigers and Yankees combine for an American League record 45 hits in a nine-inning game. The Tigers get 28 of the hits in a 19-10 win.
