    Highlights

    • Milt Wilcox started and pitched five innings, allowing just one run. The Tigers were up 5-3 going into the bottom of the eighth when Lopez gave up four runs on three hits. It resulted in his first loss of the year.
    • Don Sutton pitched seven innings for the Brewers, gave up 10 hits and struck out nine.
    • Chet Lemon and Nelson Simmons both had three hits and two RBI. Dwight Lowry had a pair of hits.
    • The Tigers fly to New York for a weekend series to cap the season.

    • O’Neal went five innings, giving up just two hits and striking out three. Sparky trotted out four pitchers to each toss an inning of relief: Sid Monge, Bill Scherrer, Aurelio López and Willie Hernández.
    • Johnson also had a double and Kirk Gibson tripled as part of a two-hit, two-RBI night.

    • This win was the Tigers’ 100th of the year, only the sixth time in franchise history to that point, and the first since 1968, they reached that mark. It was also The Cat’s final win and Willie’s final save of the regular season.
    • Speaking of Morris, he was outstanding: six innings, two hits, four walks and four strikeouts.
    • The Tigers offensive highlights were homers by Marty Castillo, his fourth of the year, and Kirk Gibson, his 27th.
