Fixing the 2025 Tigers’ Morass of Uniform Numbers

The Tigers’ current uniform number assignments are dreadful and it starts with allowing pitchers to wear single-digits.

Here’s how I would reassign uniform numbers:

NumberWho Wears ItWho Should
4Beau BrieskeColt Keith
7Manuel MargotTrey Sweeney
9Jack FlahertyJace Jung
12Casey MizeJake Rogers
15Matt ManningZach McKinstry
27Trey SweeneyManny Margot*
26George LombardCasey Mize
33Colt KeithWenceel Pérez
39Zach McKinstryBeau Brieske
46Wenceel PérezJack Flaherty

*Margot could also wear 34, as could Flaherty or Andy Ibañez, though I think that’s too high a number for an infielder.

It would be nice to get a real number for #87 Tyler Holton, wouldn’t it? Perhaps Chris Fetter could offer up his #41 to support the cause.

Sept. 14, 1984: Blue Jays 7 – Tigers 2

  • Morris appeared to be limping toward the postseason. In this one he made it through six innings and allowed seven hits, three of them homers: two by Willie Aikens and one from Roseville’s own Ernie Whitt.
  • Clancy kept the Tigers in check, giving up four hits. Jimmy Key got the quintessential 1980s four-inning save.
